Thomas Edward (T. E.) Lawrence (1888-1935), popularly known as “Lawrence of Arabia,” was a British archaeologist, army officer, and diplomat known among other things for his writings on revolution and guerrilla warfare. In 1919 he was elected to a seven-year Research Fellowship at All Souls College.

Echoing this legacy, the T. E. Lawrence Program at All Souls College aims to be a focal point for research on conflict in Oxford. Led by Stathis N. Kalyvas, Gladstone Professor of Government and Fellow of All Souls College, it brings together faculty, students, academic visitors and practitioners whose goal is a better understanding of the causes, dynamics, and consequences of conflict and violence and the many ways in which they shape the social and political order. Among other activities, the Program hosts the T.E. Lawrence Speaker Series on Conflict, showcasing ongoing research on this topic.
